New faith based movie, War Room, took the US box office by storm this weekend finishing in the No.2 spot, a huge surprise to many.
In it’s first weekend on general release the movie took in over $11 million at the box office beating major movie releases Owen Wilson’s action thriller ‘No Escape’ and Zac Efron’s ‘We Are Friends’ (which was a major box office flop) to the top of the box office charts.
The Christian movie, War Room, stars Priscilla C. Shirer – daughter of famed preacher Tony Evans and sister of popular gospel singer Anthony Evans. It was directed by Alex Kendrick and produced by his brother Stephen Kendrick, the award-winning creators of Fireproof and Courageous, who are regarded as the ‘Spielbergs of Christian cinema. It is a compelling drama with humor and heart that explores the power that prayer can have on marriages, parenting, careers, friendships, and every other area of our lives.
The story is built around married couple, Tony and Elizabeth Jordan, who appear to have it all – great jobs, a beautiful daughter, and their dream house. But appearances can be deceiving and the couple’s world is actually crumbling under the strain of a failing marriage. While Tony basks in his professional success and flirts with temptation, Elizabeth resigns herself to increasing bitterness. But their lives take an unexpected turn when Elizabeth meets her newest client, Miss Clara, and is challenged to establish a “war room” and a battle plan of prayer for her family. As Elizabeth tries to fight for her family, Tony’s hidden struggles come to light and he must decide if he will make amends to his family and prove Miss Clara’s wisdom that victories don’t come by accident.
The movie opened on 28th August at cinemas across the US. It is currently unclear whether it will be released on UK cinema screens, however, in the meantime there are a number of resources available for purchase on the official website. War Room website [spacer style=”1″]
