To mark the 70th Anniversary of the arrival of the MV Empire Windrush, Zoe Gospel will be launching a gospel exhibition at Stratford Library, London from Tuesday 19th June to Sunday 1st July.
June 22, 2018 marks 70 years since the Empire Windrush arrived at Tilbury Docks bringing with it a contingent of 472 passengers from the Carribbean. This heralded the start of large numbers of Caribbeans migrating to the UK to help rebuild the country following the end of World War II.
The Zoe Gospel exhibition will feature materials drawn from the Jordan’s Demeanours; Black History and Gospel Music History since the Empire Windrush 1948. It will also feature talks, workshops as well as live music performances on Saturday 22nd June at 5-7:45pm and Sunday 23rd June at 3-5pm.
Jordan Demeanours is a Heritage Lottery funded project which conducted research into black history and the history of Black Gospel Music in the United Kingdom since the arrival of Empire Windrush in 1948.
In addition to the Stratford Library location, this mobile exhibition will be installed at various schools and libraries across Newham, London.
