Jim Caviezel, the guy who played Jesus in Mel Gibson’s 2004 box office hit ‘The Passion of the Christ’, confirms that he will be back in the role in the upcoming sequel and it will be “the biggest film in history.”In a recent interview with USA Today about his latest film, ‘Paul, Apostle of Christ’ in cinemas March 2018, Jim Caviezel also took the opportunity to tease a few details about the Passion 2 project.
The actor said, “There are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience…I won’t tell you how he’s going to go about it, but I’ll tell you this much, the film he’s going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It’s that good.”
It could be assumed that he’s just hyping, but given that ‘The Passion of the Christ’ is the most successful independent movie of all time grossing $612 million worldwide the sequel movie might just live up to Caviezel’s promise.
Mel Gibson confirmed back in 2016 that he was working with Braveheart screenwriter, Randall Wallace, to deliver The Passion of the Christ 2 which will be titled ‘The Resurrection’. In a 2016 interview with Pastor Greg Laurie, Gibson said, “(The Resurrection is) a very big subject and it needs to be looked at because we don’t want to just do a simple rendering of it – you know, read what happened. But in order to read it, experience and explore probably deeper meanings of what it’s about, it’s going to take some doing and Randall Wallace is up to the task.”
In his USA Today interview Caviezel added, “Braveheart, that’s a film that took a long time to be able to crack. The same thing for Passion. And the same thing for this. He’s finally got it. So that is coming.”
