17yr old rapper, singer, writer and producer, J Vessel, is one of 5 Gospel artists to be nominated for the coveted MOBO Best Gospel Act award this year and is already being labelled as the one to watch. Jordan Amadi-Myers may be the youngest of the nominees in his category but with his music career starting at the tender age of 13, he has already worked with the likes of Guvna B, Jake Issac, Victizzle and Ekklesia.
We caught up with J Vessel to find out how he’s feeling about his MOBO Nomination and why he thinks people should vote for him.
Vinejuice: How do you feel about the nomination, what does it mean to you?
If I’m honest, I don’t think it’s sunk in yet! I mean, it was a huge shock when we found out and even up until this very moment I wouldn’t be surprised if they called and said they got the wrong guy! But I mean, God has his ways. Some people chase things like this but the fact is that we don’t decide these things, God does.
Vinejuice: What do you hope comes from it?
I hope that people will be encouraged to let God have full control and let him do the crazy while we do what needs to be done. Trust that God has a plan and that he’s got your back. I also hope that young people will be inspired to be bold and begin their work and not be afraid of critics or people telling them “they’re too young”. You had a purpose before anyone had an opinion!
Vinejuice: Why should people vote for you?
Because I’m different. Because I’m young. Because I stand for something bigger than me. I live to give hope to restless hearts and put substance and transparency back into music. I’ll also buy you a snack box from KFC!
