Lecrae’s music career took a major upward turn yesterday as it was announced that he has signed to Columbia Records, the same label as megastars Beyoncé, Adele, Pharrell and more.
Lecrae is the co-founder and leading artist of independent record label, Reach Records, the Christian Hip Hop label that has successfully put artists at the top of the CHH genre and put artists like Lecrae and Andy Mineo on the radar of major mainstream secular outlets. In this new deal signed with Columbia Records it is reported that Lecrae will still release music with his Reach Records imprint.
The multi-award winning artist has already been having a massive year with the success of his Church Clothes 3 mixtape released in January; becoming Dr. Lecrae Moore after receiving an honorary doctorate of music degree in March; and releasing his first book, “Unashamed”, earlier in May that has just made it onto The New York Times bestsellers list. Following this new signing it’ll undoubtedly only continue in this vein.
Lecrae already told us back in February that he has been working on his 8th studio album, apparently working in the studio with ‘legends’. Now that he’ll have the backing of Columbia Records this album will likely be his biggest to date.[spacer style=”1″]
Over to you
Lecrae has been accused of selling-out in the past, and some will say this is another example, or do you think this is a great opportunity for the Gospel to spread further? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.[spacer style=”1″]
