Introjuice – Midnight Oil: Live in Worship

If you’re a person who likes surprises, then ‘Midnight Oil: Live in Worship’ is definitely for you. What I love about this album is that just when you think you know what is going to happen you’re suddenly yet pleasantly taken in another direction that doesn’t feel foreign –  instead it feels oh so strangely right!

What Seth and A New Thing has successful done is combined songs, sounds and musically structures that you would expect from great Gospel Albums with fresh ideas and an urban feel that make even old hymns sound current at a youth convention! Released in the last quarter of 2014 under the KindgonBOY! Records label, Midnight Oil: Live in Worship really does reach out to a spectrum of people and ticks many boxes to qualify it as probably one the best Gospel albums to have come out of the UK in 2014.

Another thing that stands out on this album is the quality of the finish. From the album cover, the song writing, musical arrangements and mastering, this album screams quality. And so it should. It’s therefore no surprise that the album rose to Top 5 in the Christian and Gospel Category of the National Charts. I also hear the Seth is releasing a special “ ‘Deluxe Edition’ of the album with the help of US Gospel Legend & Grammy Award Winner Donald Lawrence, and Top US Gospel Songstress Jessica Reedy (whose debut album ‘From The Heart’ debuted at #1 on the Billboard Gospel Albums Chart).” Read more: Premier Gospel

The song ‘Already Done’ is probably one of my personal favourites on the album. Featuring Wayne Brown, the lyrics are very simple, clear and definite. The vocals on this track offer beautifully smooth harmonies that speak of gentle reassurance and encouragement. The chord progressions are also quite simple and almost predictable. Which in this instance really isn’t a bad thing. It kind of just strengthens the message of assurance. But don’t get too comfortable, as true to form, Seth and A New Thing do what they do best in shaking things up ever so slightly in a way that just has you out of your chair and rocking, before bringing you back down for a safe and secure landing! Love it.
