Hezekiah Walker Says He’s Leaving Gospel Music

One of Gospel music’s most respected artists, Hezekiah Walker declared on Instagram yesterday that he is “respectfully bowing out” of the music industry to the dismay of thousands of fans and fellow artists who jumped onto his feed to expressed their feelings towards his announcement.

So why the sudden ‘mic drop’ on Instagram? Well, according to the “Every Praise” singer, the Gospel music industry is full of Gatekeppers who think they have a monopoly over the Industry and Pulpit.” When talking of “Gatekeepers”, Hezekiah is referring to managers, publicist and teams of major influencers, pastors and ministry leaders.

Hezekiah goes on to complain about negative competitiveness and high-level industry heads who are  “so desperate to keep fame and status until they manipulate and cover a platform that actually belongs to God.”

Read is full Insta post:

“RESPECTFULLY BOWING OUT!

I normally don’t use social media for what I’m about to say but the elephant in the room can’t be ignored anymore at least not by me.
I’m extremely tired of these so called GATEKEEPERS who think they have a monopoly over the Industry and Pulpit. Their managers, publicist, teams,
along with themselves are silently competitive and hide behind kindness when they are in your company as they work earnestly to keep you away from their platforms and level of fame. Be aware of managers, publicist and teams that will pitch you to compete with other artists or pastors based on negativity and lies that are brought to you by them to boost your ego. This group normally have GRACE for some and CRUCIFY others. These GATEKEEPERS are so desperate to keep fame and status until they manipulate and cover a platform that actually belongs to God. You guys can have it I’m done with it and them!”

And it’s clear that he is not the only popular gospel artist to feel this way. It seems that this has been something that other  artists could relate to as people like Israel Houghton and Damita Haddon shout a big AMEN to his post. Damita actually accuses the gospel industry of being “Demonic and Divisive” in her response to Hezekiah’s post:

I thank God that FINALLY someone WE respect has TOLD THE TRUTH!!! It leaves such a bad taste in my mouth concerning the “industry” of gospel smh. It’s so demonic and divisive! THANK U BISHOP… much love & respect for u FOREVERRRRR”
