Following a highly successful debut in 2014, one of the UK’s leading Gospel industry recognition awards is back. The Gospel Touch Music Awards 2015 (GTMA) was launched last week and managed to rack up over 500 nominations within 24 hours.
Established to celebrate the achievements of gospel artists in the UK and worldwide, GTMA is giving Gospel music lovers home and abroad the opportunity to ensure that their favourite artists and industry players get the recognition they deserve.
What’s great about the GTMA is that it pulls together the giants of the gospel scene with the up & coming talents. With London based Christian artist ‘Jake Issacs’ being placed in the same category as ‘Jonathan McReynolds’ and young Christian rap artist ‘JVessel’ sharing a category with hip hop veteran, ‘Flame’, the GTMA really creates a platform that is not only of esteemed credibility, but one that is progressive and forward thinking.
There are 14 main categories this year including ‘Artist of the Year’, ‘Inspirational act of the Year’, ‘Video of the Year’ and ‘Event of the Year’. In addition, there are 3 individual awards which are the Humanitarian Award for the ‘Salvation Army’, the Lifetime Achievement Award going to Gospel singer ‘Donald Lawrence’ and a Tribute Award for the late ‘Andre Crouch’.
When asked about why he thought that Gospel Awards were important, founder of the GTMA, Sam Adebanjo said:
“As an artist’s myself I know what it means to be recognised for the work and effort that goes into the producing music with the aim to inspire someone. I am always honoured by it. For a lot of people receiving an award means a great deal and is a huge form of encouragement. For new artists, an award like this can be a motivator to push them on to greater things and higher heights. “
