Don’t Just Pray, ASK!

Luke 11:11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

Prayer is more than just speaking. It is more than just a collection of words that have been strung together. Prayer is more than just meaningless words that are spoken without purpose or thought. Prayer is about being specific. When you pray does your prayer have a purpose or is it just a lot of hot air.

In Matthew 7:7 Jesus said “ask and it shall be given”. How many times have we aimlessly asked rather than asked specifically? Consider our text, it says “if a son asks for bread would his father give him a stone?” Notice the specifics of the text, “if a son asks for bread”. Prayer is about being specific with God, tell him exactly how you need him to move and tell him exactly what you need.

Rather than praying for him to bless you financially ask him specifically how you need him to bless you financially, be specific with the amount. Do you want God to give you a pay rise, a new job, is it a full time job that you need or a part time job? Are you on zero hours contract and you want a permenant job with contracted hours? What is it that you actually require of God? We can say “Lord I need a miracle” but what miracle do you actually need? As you are specific God will move.

The bible says in James 4:3 we have not because we ask amiss. Do not let your prayers be generic, where you are asking amiss, but instead let your prayers be specific. The word amiss means not quite right; inappropriate or out of place. The bible declares in Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Once again the specifics are clear, speak to the mountain and tell it where you want it to go.

Don’t just pray for healing ask God how you need him to heal you. Don’t just ask God to move in your marriage be specific and tell him how you want him to move in your marriage. Remember whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, your prayer must be specific rather than generic.

Jesus asked many who he did miracles for, “what is it that you want?” Jesus is asking you and I the same question, what is it that you require me to do? What area of your life do you need me to move in? Don’t pray aimlessly instead pray specifically for specific things and then watch God move.
