During an interview with renowned Christian Hip Hop DJ, DJ Wade-O, Christon Gray tells how he turned down “substantial offers” from major  mainstream record companies including Universal and Sony, opting to go under the wing of Gospel music legend Kirk Franklin.

Christon Gray, who was formerly with Collision Records, signed to Kirk Franklin’s label, ‘Fo Yo Soul Recordings’, back in June this year and said that he still can’t believe it.

When asked whether he wants to leave Christian music, Christon said in response, “I want to expand Christian music.” He went on to celebrate Christian artists such as the Winans, Hezekiah Walker, Lecrae, and Mali Music who he said were able to successfully cross over to mainstream whilst putting out strong Christian messages.

With regards to potential new music from the artist, Gray said that he may have something out by next month and an album by the end of the year…hopefully. Fans can expect more rap on this new “progressive” album as Kirk Franklin is encouraging him to explore that side of him more.
